Our Insurance Story

Meet Karen

Like so many people, Karen Vachon has an insurance story to tell.

October 3rd, 2008 at 5PM, Karen and work colleagues were instructed to call in for a mandatory company conference call. The president of the company told them, as of this moment, [the company] no longer exists. The company was bankrupt. This national company provided employees with a self-funded health insurance plan (or so, we all thought). Not only did this alleged health insurance stop, so did their paychecks, and in the weeks to come, they discovered health insurance claims had not been paid.  Lives were turned upside down. And nobody seemed to care.

Karen had never thought of being a health insurance agent. She doesn’t really like health insurance.  She likes and cares about people.  She also loves the state of Maine.  She realized that life choices are based on access and affordability of health insurance.  She also knows that life, as we all know it, can change in a flash. Health insurance and health protection matters!

“You don’t know, what you don’t know”, says Karen. This was so true for her and her colleagues back in 2008.

Karen made it her mission to make health insurance understandable; and to assure her clients that they don’t need to put their dreams on hold because of health insurance. No matter your situation: You want to leave your employer; you want to retire; you don’t have any health insurance; you are planning to move, get married, get divorced, or start a family; you want to travel, and/or you need to protect your paycheck and your wellbeing, or you are struggling with healthcare and/or prescription costs, and you want to know about resources that can help. Karen likes to tackle these life challenges! There is no cost, no pressure, and no obligation.

Licensed since 2009, Karen serves the individual health insurance market – under 65 and Medicare throughout the state of Maine. .She is a resident of Scarborough, where she has lived for 37 years, with her husband, Peter. She is dedicated to her community, having served Project GRACE, the Scarborough Senior Advisory Committee, she is a past member of the Scarborough Community Chamber, where she served on the BOD for 10 years, and a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe parish, in Scarborough. She also represented the people of coastal Scarborough in the Maine legislature, where she served two terms in the Maine House of Representatives (2014-2018).

She believes that health insurance should be affordable, accessible, and easy to understand.   Health insurance shouldn’t be a cold transaction, it should be a relationship. She hopes no client of hers has a nightmare health insurance story to tell. Where ever you may be – Scarborough, Portland, Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, Carrabassett, Naples, Gorham, Westbrook, Saco, Old Orchard, Biddeford – Karen serves clients throughout Maine. And she looks forward to helping you!
