Are you planning to travel?

Travelers beware! Know your health insurance coverage and ensure it covers you when you travel—inside the US and abroad.

Many health insurance plans will cover you worldwide in an emergency. That’s a good thing, but it can cost you upfront money and be challenging to get reimbursed when medical bills are itemized in a foreign language. Also, there can be additional costs for Medicare beneficiaries because insurance companies will only reimburse at the Medicare rate. Beneficiaries will have to pay the balance if healthcare is more expensive than the Medicare reimbursement rate. We recommend a low-cost supplemental benefit package or comprehensive trip insurance for these reasons. We offer both.

A very low cost/great value: offered by Alliance for Direct Benefits. This is a benefit package that you pay for annually. In addition to providing Global Emergency Assistance whenever you travel more than 100 miles from home, the package includes Teladoc, Emergency Roadside Service, and more. For under $15/month (if you pay annually), you, your spouse, and eligible family members have additional protection with great value!

For more comprehensive travel insurance, we offer Geo Blue. Geo Blue offers trip coverage for a planned trip duration – put in the travel dates, choose the benefit level, and you are covered for that single trip. Or if you travel a lot during the year, you can purchase travel protection that will cover you for the year. Situations where we recommend more comprehensive travel insurance are as follows:

  • If you are enrolled in U65 coverage with Taro Health or Community Health Options, neither carrier covers you outside of the US.
  • If you are on a Medicare Supplement plan and/or a Medicare Advantage Plan and are concerned about additional healthcare costs that you could have above coverage limits and beyond Medicare reimbursement rates, we recommend Geo Blue.

We are here to help you sort through your options and help you enroll.

Or, if you would rather self-enroll with either of these providers, here are the links:
